Коль одиночество вело твои шаги
К берегу в безмерном этом море,
    Где медлил ты, вступая,
    Пока широкий солнца диск,
Казалось, вис на кромке океана,
То ты узрел из золота плетенье,
    Парящее недвижно
    Над сферой утопающей:
Узрел у горных пиков облака
В обрамленье ярого сиянья,
    Как чёрного гагата
    Скала над жгучей бездной.
    Сейчас настал тот час,
    Когда в зените солнце,
Звезда, что вышла из-за океана,
Средь облаков в пурпуровом сиянье,
Волшебных островов на глади неба.
И восхищённым взором воспаряешь
В центр сущего, всего, что существует,
Где возвышается храм Демона.

    Уже не острова
Мерцают средь пурпурного потока,
    Не перистые шторы
Скрывают солнца огненное ложе,
    Не глянцевые волны
    Сей купол устилают,
    То верно – вечный храм,
Один он столь прекрасен и чудесен.
Стихии все, всё то, что мысль людская
Извечная творит любовью и величьем,
Соединилось, чтоб воздвигнуть храм,
Могуществом таким не наделить земное.

If solitude hath ever led thy steps
To the shore of the immeasurable sea,                       _190
And thou hast lingered there
Until the sun's broad orb
Seemed resting on the fiery line of ocean,
Thou must have marked the braided webs of gold
That without motion hang                                             _195
Over the sinking sphere:
Thou must have marked the billowy mountain clouds,
Edged with intolerable radiancy,
Towering like rocks of jet
Above the burning deep:                                               _200
And yet there is a moment
When the sun's highest point
Peers like a star o'er ocean's western edge,
When those far clouds of feathery purple gleam
Like fairy lands girt by some heavenly sea:                _205

Yet not the golden islands
